Location Description

Kalwan is surrounded by mountain ranges on both the sides, i.e., north and south. The Baglan – Satana range and the Selbari range is on the north while on the south lies the Satmala range. The forts in the region are Premgiri fort (2759 ft. from M.S.L.), Kandala fort (3435 ft. from M.S.L.), and Mohandari fort (3900 ft. from M.S.L.). A large catchment area is formed in Kalwan due to the mountain ranges around.An earthfill dam of Chanakpur is made on the Girnariver which was built in 1911. Currently the capacity of the dam is 1,056 m.c.ft. Premgiri fort lies on the Kalwan – Nanduri route. Remains of the fortifi cations and water tanks can be seen here. Kandala fort lies in the best of natural surroundings with grassy hills and cascading waterfalls. This fort has a rich history of the strong power of the Mighty Marathas. The fort of Mohandari is famously known for its mythological story of the war between the Goddess and the devils. The excitement of knowing this makes one visit the fort with much interest.
